노팅힐 Notting Hill (1999)

  블로거 Deborah님의 포스팅 '외로움을 노래한 곡들'에 소개된 노래들을 듣다가 문득 Bill Withers의 노래 Ain't No Sunshine가 떠올랐습니다. 이 노래를 들을 때마다 저는 영화 '노팅힐 Notting Hill(1999)'에 나오던 런던의 거리가 떠오릅니다. '노팅힐'은 런던의 노팅힐에서 작은 책방을 운영하는 평범한 서점 주인 휴 그랜트와 세계적으로 유명한 배우로 나오는 줄리아 로버츠의 사랑을 다룬 로맨틱 코미디 영화였는데, 휴 그랜트가 줄리아 로버츠와의 짧은 만남 이후 방황하는 장면에서 나온 노래가 'Ain't No Sunshine'입니다.

  원래는 'Ain't No Sunshine'만 포스팅하고 끝내려고 했는데, 영화 '노팅힐'에 사용된 노래 몇 곡이 더 생각나서 끄적여봅니다.

  1993년에 결성해서 이제는 50대를 바라보는 중년의 아저씨들이 되어버린 아일랜드의 보이밴드인 보이존(Boyzone)의 'No Matter What'입니다.

  영화의 주제곡인 엘비스 코스텔로 Elvis Costello의 노래 'She'도 좋아하는 노래 중 하나입니다. 영화의 후반부에 줄리아 로버츠의 기자회견장에 휴 그랜트가 찾아간 것을 본 줄리아 로버츠가 환하게 웃으며 흘러나오는 장면과 함께 흘러나오는 엘비스 코스텔로의 목소리가 인상적이었던 노래였습니다.

  올해가 1999년이니 영화가 만들어진지 벌써 20년이나 지났네요. 영화가 나온지 몇 년 된 것 같지도 않은데 세월은 참 빠르게도 흘러갑니다.
